meet cute

There’s a saying that people come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.

And in the movies, the way people meet is often referred to as a “meet cute”.

In the movie, The Holiday (2006), Iris (Kate Winslet) gives Arthur (Eli Wallach) a ride home while she’s vacationing in Los Angeles.

Arthur observes, “Well, this was some meet-cute”.

Iris, looking confused, says she doesn’t know the term.

And Arthur explains that it’s how two characters meet in a movie.

“Say a man and a woman both need something to sleep in, and they both go to the same men’s pajama department.

And the man says to the salesman, ‘I just need bottoms.’

The woman says, ‘I just need a top.’

They look at each other, and that’s the meet-cute.”

In movies, the meet-cute is staged.

But in life, meet-cute’s happen by chance.

Or do they?

We meet people in many ways.

Through friends.

Conferences.

Events.

Work.

Sometimes there’s chemistry at first.

Or conflict.

But in the end, there’s a sparked connection.

While we can’t force life’s meet-cutes, we can increase the likelihood of them happening.

How?

By putting yourself out there.

Attend an event.

Join a new group.

Publish that post.

You never know when you’ll meet your next character.

Moo News: Friends, let me introduce you to “meet cute”. This cow and cardinal happened upon each other while grazing for lunch. I imagine a fast friendship ensued.
