You may be wondering why I’m writing about a cow named Spring, in Fall. It’s still above 90 degrees in some areas of the country, and leaves are just beginning to change color and drop. Is now the right time to think about a time two seasons away?
It sure is. Let me tell you why.
Spring is a season of sunlight streaming through windows, more daylight, and flowers in bloom. You can spring clean, take a spring break and you may feel energized to spring into new projects.
But waiting until the Spring season begins to jumpstart a goal may leave you longing for Summer. And before you know it, we’re back at Fall.
So, if you want to prepare for your Spring goals, the best time to start is now.
Here’s why:
- Setting a goal will help you focus. Feel like there’s a lot going on in your life right now? Focusing on a future goal helps you to zero in on each task at hand, reducing friction and frustration.
- Setting a goal will help you stay motivated through Fall and Winter. Let’s say you’re planning a trip next Spring and you want to get in shape. Setting a goal now and working to achieve it gives you sight of your destination, before you actually head to your destination.
- Setting a goal helps you figure out how to spend your time. What do you want to be doing? And who do you want to be doing it with? Once you set your goal, you can break the larger goal into smaller goals to make reaching your goal more attainable and measurable.
- Setting a goal will make you feel good. You’ll feel better about yourself – especially when you stick to your goal. And when you reach your goal, dopamine will be released – which will make you want to set even more goals!
The goal for today was to help you spring into action (and yes, the puns were intended).
